    General Psychiatry – Consultation-Liaison Service

MISSION:

    The mission of the Consultation-Liaison Service is to insure that residents develop a basic competence in working with patients in medical settings who have psychiatric presentations. To that end the C-L Service exposes residents to a wide range of neuropsychiatric presentation in medical and surgical patients; teaches concise interviewing skills and rapid differential diagnostic formulation; examines the impact of illness, hospitalization, and medical care on the psychological functioning of patients; and educated residents about the role of psychiatric, psychological, and behavioral factors in the pathogenesis of medical disorders.

PERSONNEL:

    3 Faculty, 1 Administrative Assistant, 2-3 Psychiatric Residents, and 2 Medical Students.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS:

    1. Residency Training Program in C-L Psychiatry.
    2. Medical Student Clerkship Rotation.

PATIENT SERVICES:

    In-patient psychiatric consultation to University Hospital and Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veteran's Hospital.
