Mental Health Services
The Kerrville Division VA mental health services include a mental health clinic with psychiatrist and nurse practitioner prescribers and psychiatrist, psychologist, nurse practitioner, and social work therapists. Mental health clinicians treat the full range of psychiatric disorders as outpatients and when consulting to primary care doctors with hospitalized patients, including specialized services for dementia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and palliative care. A primary care - mental health liaison psychologist is co-located in the primary care clinic areas to provide collaborative care between primary care providers and the mental health clinic. A geropsychologist is co-located in the Geriatric (GEM) clinic to perform capacity and other neuropsychology evaluations and to serve geriatric and other demented patients in the hospital and as outpatients. Psychologists work as part of the home based primary care team and also as members of the Ethics Committee reviewing complicated cases and making recommendations for care guided by ethical principles.
