Biography: Martin Javors, PhD, graduated from University of Texas in Austin with a B.S. in Pharmacy and from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharmacology). He performed a 2 year postdoctural fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology at UTHSCSA before joining the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at UTHSCSA in 1981. He is the Director of the Biological Psychiatry Laboratories in the Department of Psychiatry and supervises clinical research and basic research projects in collaboration with several faculty members in that capacity. Dr. Javors’s personal research interests are: (1) biomarkers for alcohol consumption, (2) measurement of platelet serotonin transporter function as a peripheral marker of alcohol effects in alcoholism, (3) incorporation of valproic acid into phospholipids as mechanism of action, (4) therapeutic drug monitoring of psychotropic drugs. Dr. Javors’s research has been funded by a variety of sources including NIAAA, NIDA, state of Texas, UTHSCSA.
