Biography: Dr. Alan Peterson received a PhD in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University and completed a residency in clinical psychology and fellowship in clinical health psychology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. Most of his research involves conducting randomized clinical trials to develop and evaluate behavioral treatments for psychological disorders and medical/dental conditions affected by lifestyle factors. His primary areas of research interest are in the field of behavioral medicine and include tobacco cessation, weight management, chronic pain management, and insomnia. He is currently conducting a large randomized clinical trial to evaluate habit reversal treatment for Tourette Syndrome and chronic tic disorders. Dr. Peterson served 21 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and was the clinical health psychology postdoctoral fellowship program director and chair of the department of psychology at Wilford Hall Medical Center prior to joining the faculty at UTHSCSA. He has several ongoing military-relevant research studies related to deployment stress and early interventions for the treatment of acute stress disorder and PTSD.
