Biography:Dr. Escamilla graduated from the University of California at San Francisco Psychiatry Residency in 1993 and an NIMH sponsored Fellowship in Psychiatric Genetics Research in 1996. He has been a member of the UTHSCSA Department of Psychiatry faculty since 1998. His research interest is in bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and the genetic basis of psychiatric diseases. Dr. Escamilla is currently studying the genetic basis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse disorders, and major depression. His research is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.
