Dr. Vivek Singh is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Director of University Hospital Psychiatric Services, Director of the Psychiatric Consultation Liaison Service and Chairman of the Institutional Review Board at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). After completing his medical training, Dr. Singh joined the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for his Psychiatry Residency training, where he was Chief Resident. Following the completion of his residency training, in 2002, he pursued advanced training through a Research Fellowship (2002-2003) in Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry at UTHSCSA. He is board certified in Psychiatry and board certified in Psychosomatic Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His clinical, research, and teaching activities are focused on bipolar disorders and Psychosomatic Medicine.



Dr. Singh has a keen interest in the clinical, biological, and phenomenological research of Bipolar Disorders. He is currently working on numerous research studies funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and pharmaceutical companies on bipolar disorders. He has also been involved in the development of a new rating scale in the assessment of this complex illness, the Bipolar Inventory of Symptom Scale (BISS), which is a more comprehensive scale to assess symptoms in this illness. Dr. Singh has authored several articles and book chapters on bipolar disorders.



He is actively involved in training of future physicians through his teaching and supervision of medical student and psychiatry residents. Dr. Singh is a recipient of the Best Teacher of the Year Award, Department of Psychiatry, UTHSCSA. He is also a highly sought after national speaker on bipolar disorders and travels extensively to educate practicing psychiatrist in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of this illness.



Dr. Singhs clinical practice focuses on the assessment and pharmacological treatment of bipolar illness as well as other mood disorders. Dr. Singh also provides psychiatric care for medically ill patients with mental illness at the University Hospitals. Dr. Singh has been recognized for his clinical excellence by his peers and is actively sought by them for second opinions of complex and challenging cases. He has been rated as among "The Best Doctors in America" since 2005.
