Dr. Young-McCaughan is a registered nurse with a doctoral degree in physiological nursing. She retired from the U.S. Army Nurse Corps where she held a wide variety of clinical and research positions with a primary focus in oncology. In her present position she coordinates the clinical trials associated with the South Texas Research Organizational Network Guiding Studies on Trauma & Resilience (STRONG STAR), a multi-disciplinary research consortium funded by the Department of Defense to study posttraumatic stress disorder. Additionally, she directs the UTHSCSA Cancer Treatment and Research Center (CTRC) Fitness Center that offers evidence-based assessments and exercise programs for cancer survivors and their families. Dr. Young-McCaughans program of funded research focuses on testing exercise interventions in the recovery from chronic disease and treatment.
