Fellowship Training in Forensic Psychiatry
Introduction
The Department of Psychiatry at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio offers a one year, full-time fellowship training program in Forensic Psychiatry, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
The program has major clinical rotations at the Audie L. Murphy Division of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Kerrville State Hospital, Bexar County District Court Clinic, Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center, and a private practice rotation with forensic psychiatry faculty in the community (adult and child civil cases). These rotations provide the fellow with a broad-based experience and supervision in criminal and civil forensic psychiatry.
Didactic seminars are provided in both criminal and civil forensic psychiatry. Seminars include a forensic topic seminar, a forensic case conference focusing on expert witness testimony and forensic report writing skills, and a seminar on landmark mental health law cases.
Medical licensure in the state of Texas is required.
