Clinical Psychology Residency Program


bullet  Seminars and Case Conferences

As a supplement to individual supervision, residents attend a series of conferences intended to broaden the range of their clinical experiences and the theoretical diversity to which they are exposed. The conference schedule includes both required and elective offerings.

Required Seminars and Conferences:

  1. Grand Rounds (9 months)
    Rounds are scientific and clinical presentations to the faculty and residents of the Department by visiting consultants and members of the faculty.
  2. Adult Psychopathology, Psychodiagnostics and Psychotherapy (9 months) This seminar emphasizes traditional and contemporay psychodynamic formulation as relevant to diagnosis and treatment. Special consideration is given to the segments of a psychotherapeutic encounter (e.g. the initial interview, developing a treatment alliance, interpretation, working through, and termination).
  3. Neuropsychology (3 sessions)
    This seminar introduces neuropsychological assessment of children and adults.
  4. Supervision (4 sessions)
    Models of supervision are explored to prepare the resident for supervisory functions.
  5. Ethnic and Cultural Diversity (7 sessions)
    Topics involve psychotherapy issues relevant to men, women, Hispanics, African-Americans, gays/lesbians, Asian Americans, and the disabled.
  6. Ethics and Professional Affairs with the Director of Training (12 months)
    A lunch seminar with the Director of Training that explores ethical issues and professional affairs with invited lecturers. Brief seminars on topics selected by the residents are scheduled during this lunch meeting.


Elective Seminars and Conferences
Residents are expected to select elective seminars from Department of Psychiatry offerings so that they are continuously enrolled in one or two electives. Examples of elective seminars include:
