Call Responsibilities

Photograph in Clinical SettingCall should be interesting and educational as well as required. The department tries to make call responsibilities meaningful, but at the same time at a frequency which will not interfere with other educational opportunities or the ability to have quality time away from work.


PGY-1 Call

Psychiatry (5 or 6 calls/month)

Primary Care (at their call rates, usually every 4th or 5th night)

PGY-2 Call

Residents not on Consultation/Liaison or Night Float: 5 calls/month

During the C/L rotation, home pager calls are divided among the residents (usually one week at a time, every 3 weeks). Additionally, one weekend shift per month.

During Night Float shift Sunday - Thursday. (No other clinical responsibilities except for psychotherapy patients).

PGY-3 Call

Emergency Center (1-2 nights/month) 5-10:30 p.m. (No holidays).

PGY-4 Call

A week at a time, with a beeper from home.

Senior residents provide administrative backup to the other residents on call.
