Mental illnesses come in many forms and severities. In any given year, 18 percent of adults and 13 percent of children in the United States have some form of emotional or behavioral difficulty that causes suffering in their daily lives. Serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia or mood disorder, affects four percent of adults and one in 68 children have an autistic spectrum disorder.

Since the 1960s, The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UT Health San Antonio has been working to treat mental disorders, understand their origins, and develop new interventions. Join us in our mission.
